Why web.de is not good for you
08th of June 2003
web.de(web.de) is a popular german freemail provider.
But for some reasons their proprietary software does not conform to defacto standards on internet email.
- They don’t use the typical signature delimeter —. To fix this, simply define your signature to start with these two dashes and write you normal signature text below it.
- They always append their default self advertising web.de signature regardles if you define your own signature or not.
- Chances are good that your signature will be too long because they append their own signature.
- They refuse to send email to legitimate RFC822 email addresses that are too long (in their opinion).
For example using web.de you can’t send email to an address like this:
qmail-sc.1037024741.efblbabhbadfddbjhcnm-frank-keyword-qmailml.61aa882=somewhere.edu@list.cr.yp.to
Although Web.de is quite nice compared to other freemail providers, in my opionen those points are unacceptable. sigh
