Kiwi - ein neuer Mail-Client für OS X

Beim stöbern in einer der Cocoa Mailinglisten bin ich auf Kiwi gestoßen. Die Idee von Kiwi hört sich interessant an:
We have a lot of great ideas on how e-mail clients can be improved, but in order to do that we need a base to work off of. By creating Kiwi we hope to build an open source e-mail client that other people with great ideas can use as a platform for innovation. We think there’s alot of room for improvement with e-mail, but it’s hard for a company to compete with free clients and for the indie guy/girl there’s alot of work in just a very basic client.
Also nicht irgendein Client, der eine Idee verfolgt (plus evtl. ein paar Erweiterung), sondern eine Rahmen mit dem eigene Ideen umgesetzt werden können.
Die Ziele für den Basis-Client hören sich auch gut an:
- Address Book Integration (Because all Mac OS X citizens should take advantage of what’s available)
- Spotlight Support (Now that we have it, we can’t live with out it)
- High performance (We’re all frustrated with the performance of both Mail.app and Thunderbird)
- Scalability (Kiwi can handle folders with up to 60,000 messages)
- Customizable (Kiwi uses the Lua scripting language for maximum flexibility)
Da spricht mir einer aus der Seele! Obwohl ich Lua nicht unbedingt wirklich faszinierend finde, ist die Wahl doch nicht schlecht.
Ich werde Kiwi mal im Auge behalten.
